I WOULD LIKE HELP WITH
Not sure what to ask as this is my first time here :) Though, wanting to create fantasy illustrations in a book cover or narrative style, anything in relation to those conventions would be most welcome. Thanks!
It’s a very lovely piece.
1. three identical crack formations. Also, this formation is facing away from your light source yet is lit like mountain at #3.
2. What is this object? If it’s a tower or a fort or something then a bit of built-looking architecture would help to sell it more.
Thanks for the critique, Alex, and apologies for deleting the other image. Realised it was a digital painting at a traditional table. Thanks though for your critique on that too. Just as an aside, I don’t know what opacity jittering means, can you elaborate?
Re the dragons. 2. is the haunch area of the mother dragon’s left back leg. The far left mountain peak gave me trouble because I added it later and couldnt figure out how to light it from the actual sun side without it looking weird so I took artistic licence there 🙂
1 Just a term for having the opacity of your brush pressure-sensitive and the edges being too visible. I don’t remember what I wrote though.
2. With the way the spine leads the eye and the wing curls over, I find it hard to read as part of the dragon. Maybe a more organic shape would help, since it looks like a straight pillar to me.
3. Definitely an occasional necessity.

At the postage stamp size on my phone, the dragon and it’s rock perch disappear into each other. You might consider bringing more of the red/Orange light into its body, or find some other iridescent colors to help distinguish it from across the room.
Thanks for commenting. That was my aim, to have the dragons and pinnacle appear as a single silhouette against the brighter sky from a distance, with the details becoming more noticeable the closer you get. in real life its about 2 and a half feet wide so that effect is more noticeable – the joys of trying to make traditional art work on the computer 🙂
