Any reason they are looking to the left side of the painting? Intuitive western art bias would convey that the path to wisdom is in the past, looking right would convey the future and comport to left to right reading bias of western art. But if you’re going against convention, then cool.
What tonal value for the owl? Being close and in front of the light source will it be dark with highlights on the edges? Or is this a white owl and it will be white?
Thanks, my belief is the path to Wisdom is all around us, including past, present and future so I left it ambiguous and the owls are wisdom guides which will be white.
Great start to the piece! I really like the detail and the subject matter. I feel like the tones are a little close together. I would push the owls in the background toward a more muted tone, blending in more with the light grey of the trees. I included an extremely rough tonal guide to show what I mean better. Defining the edges and boundaries of each element in the painting will help with the quick read and focus the viewer into the important parts of the piece. I like making these kinds of passes digitally so I can experiment.
For some reason anything uploaded from my tablet comes in sideways no matter how many ways I shoot it – sorry…
